Cathy Cassetta, 500-RYT, created My Yoga Place Palm Springs to continue to make the inspiring physical space created by Peace Love Yoga Palm Springs available to the many local and visiting yogis who loved practicing in that unique space. July 1, 2023, that physical space became the home of another health and wellness studio, The Sukha Life. For in-person classes at that studio, please check their website:The Sukha Life. For in-person classes at that studio, please check their website: thesukhalife.com
Prior to creating My Yoga Place Palm Springs, Cathy founded The Tabard Theatre Company in downtown San Jose in 2001; she retired as executive artistic director from Tabard in June 2020. Building on her many years in the Hollywood television industry, Cathy created, produced, and co-hosted the weekly Northern California South Bay television program Theatre This Week in the mid-1990s. A theatre artist who has worked both on- and off-stage, she has taught dance as well as theatre and playwriting to every grade from junior kindergarten through college. A produced playwright, of her many works, she is especially proud of Tabard’s 2015 production of Homeward Bound: An Orphan Train Journey.
Her journey with yoga began as a result of a personal quest to regain balance, health, and peace after a series of family losses and career stress catapulted by a diagnosis of osteoporosis in 2011. A professional theatre director, playwright, teacher, actor and former dancer, Cathy was drawn to yoga as a way to combat the condition of her bones in a healthy way. Yoga offered a physical workout her dancer’s body yearned for with the introspective calm her soul embraced. As a result of her yoga practice, in addition to stronger bones, muscles, and balance, she has regained some of the height she lost through improper bone alignment and diminished disc space. A life- long teacher, with well over 1,000 hours in teacher trainingand nearly 2,000 hours of teaching yoga, she is excited to share with others what she’s learned as a yoga practitioner and teacher.
A primary focus of her teaching is yoga for older bodies, including addressing osteoporosis, scoliosis, and limited flexibility, mobility, strength, and balance and a host of other issues older bodies experience. Workshops she’s offered include Yoga and Creativity and The Art of Bone Health through Yoga.
"I started training as a dancer when I was a toddler. That training continued for decades. I started teaching dance when I was in my teens. One thing led to another, and I went from dancer to choreographer to actor, director, playwright, you name it. The key piece of info here is that I was someone accustomed to moving her body. I am excited to share with others what I've learned as a yoga practitioner and teacher to keep an aging body fluid and as pain-free as possible."
Her yoga journey has evolved to include embracing vibration to assist the body, mind, and spirit to heal through tuning forks, hands (Reiki), breath and meditation. She and her clients have had incredibly amazing results through this very natural, non-invasive, gentle healing modality about which she is excited to share with others.
Cathy is available for private sessions for yoga as well as sound/energy healing.
